Contents of the training

As a road builder (m/f/d), you are part of our civil engineering team and play an active role in the development of construction areas, the construction of roads and parking lots or the preparation and follow-up work for industrial buildings.
In most cases, you will be one of the first people on site and turn empty meadows or other areas into a real construction site.

The first step is to measure the terrain in order to find out exactly where the road should be laid by comparing it with your construction plan.
Then the future construction site is secured.
This means setting up barrier fences, traffic signs and the odd set of traffic lights to prevent accidents with pedestrians and road users.
You quickly clear away any bushes and trees that are in the way and get down to the earthworks.
Using large equipment such as wheel loaders and excavators, the top layer of soil is removed and the ground underneath is leveled and compacted.
This is followed by a base layer of backfilled sand, gravel and frost protection gravel and the side edging of the road.
To do this, you place kerbs made of concrete elements or paving stones.
In some cases, the sidewalk is paved at the same time.
Under no circumstances should you forget the drainage channels which, together with the correct gradient of your road, ensure that no water remains on the road surface.
Depending on the construction site, sewer and water pipe construction may also be part of your tasks, as the sewers usually run under or next to the road.
Finally, asphalt is laid and the road is finished.

Duration and procedure

During your 3 years of training, you will spend a few months at school alongside your time at our company – you can never do without theory.
Here you will learn all about the materials used, how to read and draw up plans, earthworks and much more.
After the first two years of training, you will be so fit that you will already have the qualification as a civil engineering technician (m/f/d) in your pocket when you successfully pass the intermediate examination.

The third year of your apprenticeship will provide you with more in-depth specialist knowledge so that no one can fool you at the end of your apprenticeship and you will pass the journeyman’s examination with flying colors.
